10 Writing Assignments

To help motivate myself to continue writing on a daily basis, I've enlisted Matt's help in coming up with ten writing "assignments" for myself. Each assignment will be due on Sunday evening by midnight, and will be posted here on my blog. By forcing myself to complete an assignment per week, I hope I'll get back in the swing of writing and be able to keep my skills sharp while I'm on break from school. Of the assignments Matt and I came up with, five are creative and five are non-fiction, and they will range from probably 1 to 5 pages in length depending on the criteria set forth in the assignment. Matt will be keeping track of my progress and making sure I finish and post my writings on time each week. I don't plan on following this list in it's exact order, though I haven't yet decided what topic I will tackle first either. Here are the ten assignments:

1) Write ten haikus about modern life.

2) Write a short story in the first person from the perspective of a male migrant worker.

3) Write a dialog between myself and "God".

4) Write a funny fairy tale.

5) Write a sonnet about time travel.

6) Write an informative essay (5 pp.) on Blade Runner - history, reception, themes, analysis, etc.

7) Write a letter to a government representative regarding a political issue.

8) Write a journalistic story about employment scams - e.g. door-to-door "marketing" jobs

9) Write a review of a single issue of one of the following: Sandman, Lucifer, or Y The Last Man.

10) Write a research paper (5 pp.) on the Scopes Monkey trial

My first assignment will be due next Sunday, 1/19/2014. Hopefully by the end of March I'll have at least ten more blog posts here!
